What Race Cars Taught Me About Business

Years ago I had the opportunity to hit the racetrack and drive exotic cars.

I got to choose three from a fairly large lineup.

The first car I chose was an Aston Martin. For you non-car enthusiasts, it’s the car of Bond…James Bond.

I got in, and within half a lap, I was immediately overwhelmed. It was so powerful that I didn’t have the confidence to handle it.

My next car was a bright orange Lamborghini. It was sassy, had really tight steering and lots of fun…but I didn’t feel connected to it. It felt kind of masculine…and handled like a fancy go Kart that went super fast.

My final run was in a red Ferrari 360 Modena. It was sleek, and oh-so-sexy. I got chills as soon as I slid into the crisp leather seat.

She handled beautifully. She felt light and clean…and she could really fly!

In that moment, I knew I wanted my life and business to feel just like that Ferrari.

So what does this have to do with you and your next level of business?

When you want to stop trading hours for dollars, the best place to start is to look at your business model.

Your business model is the vehicle that delivers your lifestyle.

Depending upon how you design it, it can be streamlined and high performing, so it works for you seamlessly…or heavy, hard to maintain and complex, where you spend too much of your time out of your genius zone working against your grain.

So before you add anything new to your mix, take a step back for a minute and ask yourself these questions:

What does my business need to do for me so it feels good AND makes great money?

What are my clients longing for that they aren’t getting anywhere else?

What’s the easiest and most fulfilling way for me to deliver that?

Then look at your current offers and mine for the gems that are hidden, so you can maximize what you already have that’s working.
